Sage Z-Axis Fly Rods

  • Incredible tip strength bails you out of a missed stroke
  • Extra punch to propel flies with rocket-like efficiency
  • Light, strong and easier to cast
  • Aligned Fiber Technology replaces traditional glass fibers
  • Exceptional line feel, response and performance
Having the new Z-Axis in your casting hand is truly empowering. They exude fish-catching prowess akin to something out of a dream. The tip strength gives you the forgiveness to bail you out of a missed stroke, and the extra punch in their taper propels flies into the wind with rocket-like efficiency. Sage spent years researching every inch of the rod blank using exclusive analysis software. The goal was to eliminate all unnecessary material and weight. Take one and start firing and you'll agree these rods are light, strong and easier to cast for anglers of all skill levels. Each blank incorporates the next level of Sage's Generation 5 Technology. Aligned Fiber Technology replaces traditional glass hoop fibers with lighter, more responsive graphite. This improvement is combined with new construction techniques to align and compress the rods for maximum strength. Z-Axis rods produce previously unattainable levels of line feel, response and performance.

Redington Red.Fly2 Fly Rods

  • Blank is constructed of high-modulus graphite
  • Fine wood reel seat
  • Caramel-colored blank
  • Aluminum-oxide striping guides
  • AAA-grade cork handle

The lightweight Red.Fly2 possesses three of the most important qualities fly casters look for in a versatile rod – strength, accuracy and sensitivity. The blank is constructed of high-modulus graphite that gives it a fast action to fire long casts to distant pocket water. The fine wood reel seat with titanium-colored reel seat accents add a touch of style to the freshwater offerings, while the saltwater rods are enhanced with an anodized-aluminum reel seat for added corrosion resistance. Caramel-colored blank is paired with aluminum-oxide striping guides and a AAA-grade cork handle.

Temple Fork Outfitters® Lefty Kreh Professional Series Fly Rods

  • Smooth-casting design
  • Premium-grade cork handles

This series features rods with medium-fast and progressive actions that cast smoothly. And they represent excellent values for casters of all skill levels. Buy one as a backup for that trip of a lifetime, but don’t be surprised if you return with a new favorite. Available from a delicate 2-weight to a stout but castable 12-weight.

Sage Flight Fly Rods

  • Smooth action for easy loading and unloading
  • Improved power transfer and efficiency
  • Proprietary G5 casting technology

Don't be surprised if Sage's Flight Rods improve your casting. The smooth action allows you to precisely feel the rod load and unload with each cast. It's like having a casting instructor there to perfect your timing. Put this advantage to use on the water, and your casts will benefit from better power transfer and efficiency. The improved feel is the result of Sage's continuing advancements to their proprietary G5 technology, which will have you casting with confidence.

R.L. Winston PASSPORT Fly Rods

In more than 80 years designing fly rods, R.L. Winston has learned a thing or two about what it takes to transform something great into something exceptional. Such is the case with the Passport series. Starting at $199, this is the best value in Winston's lineup. You will not find a better rod anywhere close to this price. Light in the hand, they have a powerful yet forgiving action ideal for beginners who want to cast farther and experienced casters who want to perform at their peak. Cosmetics, quality of components and casting performance all add up to a rod that will please the most critical angler. Designed in Twin Bridges, MT.

Temple Fork Outfitters® Lefty Kreh TiCr Signature Fly Rods

Lefty Kreh designed the TiCr series rods for casting performance. Fast, powerful and smooth, these rods make long, accurate presentations a reality. The proprietary use of titanium and chromium dampens shock and protects the rods from run-ins with errant flies. Hardware includes three over-sized, super-hard titanium-oxide stripper guides, premium-grade cork handles and a matte black finish with silver appointments and logos. Each rod has color-coded (by line weight) alignment dots where the ferrules join. All 7-weight and heavier rods have a fighting butt, and the powerful 14-weight includes a cork fore grip. 6 weights are available with or without a fighting butt.

Sage ZXL Rods

  • Moderate-fast action
  • Lightweight, strong and easy to cast
  • Smooth, progressive taper
  • Crafted using lighter, more responsive graphite
The Sage ZXL assumes the enviable position as the most versatile all-around rod from one of the world's leading fly-rod manufacturers. The moderate-fast action perfectly bridges the gap between the fast-action Z-Axis and the ultralight TXL. The ZXL rods are lightweight, strong and easy to cast for everyone who enjoys the relaxed casting rhythm of a smooth progressive taper. The rod flexes down toward the grip, allowing you to lay down the most delicate, accurate presentations. The ZXL's versatility makes almost every fish fair game, from the brookies in crystal-clear spring creeks, to the monster rainbows lurking in the depths of an alpine lake. Utilizing Sage's proprietary Generation 5 (G5) Technology, the ZXL is crafted of lighter, more responsive graphite instead of traditional glass hoop fibers. Every gram of unnecessary material is removed from the rod blank. This translates into an incredible amount of line feel and response, resulting in intuitively better casting.

St. Croix Legend Ultra® Series Fly Rods

The Legend Ultra® rod series boasts premium, lightweight high-modulus SCIV graphite blanks constructed using IPC® and ART™ Tooling Technology. St. Croix's Advanced ReinForcing Technology™(ART™) is proprietary process that adds strength to rods in critical locations without adding weight or increasing the blank diameter. A thin layer of graphite fibers wrapped around the blank at right angles to the longitudinal fibers results in a stronger blank that will resist crushing and extreme loads. Introduced in 2003 in St. Croix's Legend Elite® series of premium fly rods, Integrated Poly Curve (IPC®) Tooling Technology creates rods that are stronger, with actions that cast with unprecedented smoothness. Most high-performance fly rods are designed using compound tapers that employ three or four measured transition points – where the slope of the taper changes – along the blank. Those transition points can create points of weakness on the blank. IPC Tooling Technology, the first process of its kind, creates tapers that are a continuous curve from the tip to the butt of the rod, effectively eliminating potential weakening transition points. Cast one and you'll instantly be impressed with the way these fast-action rods load line quickly and toss tight loops without sacrificing casting precision. They have slim-profile ferrules and high-quality cork handles. Reel seats sport nickel/silver hardware with bird's-eye maple inserts or machined aluminum with fighting butts. A Cordura® nylon covered rod case with a divided polypropylene liner is included with each rod. All Legend Ultra rods are backed by a lifetime warranty. Made in USA.

Sage 99's Fly Rods

If your thing is tailwater trout or drifting for anadromous steelhead and salmon, you just found your dream rod. This rod is specifically designed for fishing multiple-fly or indicator rigs. The 99 series is designed so it loads lower down the blank for a softer action that allows for a slightly slower line speed, more open loop and fewer tangles when casting multiple flies. Conversely, the tip actually has greater stiffness to ensure that it doesn't buckle under a load. This unique rod taper takes full advantage of Sage's G5 technology to create a rod that is still delicate enough to detect subtle strikes. The guides are slightly oversized and are designed so you can stack mend, shake out or feed line easily and manipulate the line. The 4- and 5-wt. rods are equipped with nickel-colored aluminum reel seats, cocobolo wood inserts and reverse half-wells grips. The 6- through 8-wt. rods have dark nickel-colored aluminum reel seats, full-wells handles and fighting butts. Made in USA.

Temple Fork Outfitters Lefty Kreh Series One Fly Rods

Temple Fork Outfitters® Lefty Kreh TiCr X Fly Rods

  • Enhanced line feel and feedback

The fastest-action rods in the Sage lineup aim to redefine what is possible from a fly rod. These are hot rods built for pure speed. Those who unleash the ultrafast action are rewarded with awe-inspiring distance and jaw-dropping looks from nearby anglers. Advanced Generation 5 technology combined with a radical new series of tapers accelerate line speed beyond the limits of competing rods. Sage rod designer Jerry Siem also enhanced line feel and feedback. This means intuitively better timing and a new level of casting ease from a series of ultrafast-action fly rods.

Temple Fork Outfitters® Axiom RLS Fly Rods

  • A smooth powerful rod with remarkable damping qualities
  • Ideally suited for distance
  • Translucent blue blank accentuated with gold accents

Through a proprietary process, Kevlar® is sandwiched between two layers of carbon fiber pre-preg. This patented (U.S. patent pending) process helps reduce the ovaling effect a rod blank experiences under load, creating an exceptionally smooth powerful rod with remarkable damping qualities. The result is ultrahigh line speed with crisp, clean, accurate loops. Although capable of short casts, they are ideally suited for distance. TFO's Axiom series features a rich translucent blue blank accentuated with gold script and accents, Flor-grade cork, gun metal blue up-locking reel seat and large stripping guides with gold titanium-oxide inserts.

Nice hub. I built a Sage Z-axis from a 5w blank back in 2008 and then spent a week on the Madison near West Yellowstone. Great rod.
